The Two Types Of LPA Explained Clearly

Understanding the different types of LPA is essential to making the right decision for your circumstances.

Property & Financial Affairs LPA

This allows your appointed attorney to manage:

- Bank accounts and bills

- Property and investments

- Financial decisions and transactions

It can be used while you still have capacity, with your permission, or if you lose capacity.

Health & Welfare LPA

This covers decisions such as:

- Medical treatment

- Care arrangements

- Living arrangements

This type of LPA can only be used if you are unable to make decisions yourself.

You can choose the same person for both, or appoint different individuals depending on your preferences.

Should the need arise to use your LPA, it must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian. Additionally, individuals with existing EPAs signed before October 2007 may still register them, but it's advisable to complement them with a Personal Welfare LPA for comprehensive coverage.
